Oakville & Milton Humane Society
Volunteer pet-sitting tools for a local animal-welfare nonprofit.
As a UW Blueprint developer, I build backend-heavy features for the Oakville & Milton Humane Society platform, a web application that helps volunteers sign up for pet-sitting tasks and coordinate care across multiple animals. My work spans database seeding, authentication flows, and project execution.
The nonprofit need
The Oakville & Milton Humane Society depends on volunteers to care for animals across the community. Coordinating pet-sitting tasks manually makes it harder to match the right volunteer with the right need and to keep the work visible to the team.
UW Blueprint is building the organization a dedicated web application at no cost, with a production-minded handoff rather than a short-lived prototype.
What I contributed
I focused on backend-heavy features in TypeScript: database-seeding workflows that make local development predictable, authentication flows that protect user access, and the application plumbing behind volunteer coordination.
I also helped oversee planning and execution, coordinating technical priorities and supporting cross-functional features across product, design, and engineering.
Beyond the school team
I am also a member of the Blueprint Software Foundation outside the university chapter. The foundation maintains Blueprint projects after their original student teams hand them off and helps turn one-off nonprofit builds into free products that other nonprofits can reuse.
That longer horizon changes what “done” means: documentation, maintainability, deployment, and a clean path for future contributors matter as much as shipping the first feature.
